About Kanebo, the company
Kanebo was established as a cotton trading company in 1887 at Kanegafuchi in Tokyo. In 1936, Kanebo introduced its first cosmetic product "SAVON DE SOIE", a silk-based soap. This name will always be remembered in the company's history as the first step towards the Kanebo cosmetics business of today.
The year 1960 saw a major transformation for Kanebo when the company decided to enter the beauty business committing itself to a wide range of beauty-related businesses. The cosmetics division was expanded to a major operation, based upon the technological capabilities built up since the foundation of the spinning business, and using the company's research and development strengths to create a wide range of unique new products that would eventually make Kanebo one of Japan's leading cosmetics manufacturers.
